April 2020

Well it has and will continue to be a historic time we are in.  I would like to point out some of the small things that can be seen as a silver lining amongst this epidemic.  Air and water pollution is at an all time low with factories and vehicles at a standstill.  Chick hatcheries are selling out as people have a stronger desire for food security.  Backyard gardens are being planted and people are developing a new sense of resilience, self-dependency, localization, and awareness.  Families are spending more time at home with loved ones and children and breaking the 9 to 5 bonds.  I truly hope and believe that some of these positive side effects will stick around and slowly start to change our society and natural world from extractive/destructive, to regenerative/constructive so we may have a brighter future for our children.

My son Finnley, and wife Mirka, and I worked hard getting our summer plants in the garden this past weekend.  We were a little late planting than I would normally like but better late than never.  Finnley loved getting his hands dirty and playing with his shovel.  Aside from a few ant bites, it was great teamwork putting in our greens, beans, cucumbers, carrots, herbs and watermelons.

As we are slowly getting used to this “new normal” we have brainstormed to come up with some great ways to provide some unique ways to help you get easy access to healthy, responsibly raised food.  We are launching a new 5 Week Meat CSA!  The CSA will run for 5 weeks beginning 4/17/20 and will offer different meat packages delivered to your home every Friday.  You can see the details of the CSA here.  Delivery is already included in the pricing and CSA signups must be pre-ordered and placed by Tuesday 4/14/20 at midnight to be included in this special deal.  If you will be out of town, not a problem, just send us an email and we will hold that week’s delivery until the following week.

In addition to attending the Sea Island Farmers Market at 2024 Academy Rd Johns Island, SC every Saturday from 9:30-1:30, we also offer home delivery and free pickup locations in West Ashley and Mt Pleasant.  You may select your preferred pickup or delivery options at checkout.  I hope that these options will make it easier for you to get access to local nutrient dense food.

Your Farmer,
Jeff Siewicki
